FALLS CHURCH, VA - The Association of Health Insurance Advisors (AHIA), the health insurance division of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) was pleased that President Bush included a call for affordable health care in his State of the Union Address.
AHIA agrees with the President that "keeping America competitive requires affordable health care". His January 31st State of the Union Address emphasizes the need to strengthen Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
AHIA supported the enactment of HSAs and is eager to work with the Administration and Congress to see them enhanced. HSA opponents have suggested the accounts are for the wealthy only. "Our clients would disagree. Many employer groups and individuals have switched from traditional and managed care insurance to HSAs with favorable results reported from the employees as well as the employers" states AHIA President Debra C. Newman, CLU, ChFC, LTCP.
The President also urged Congress to pass medical liability reform this year. Again, AHIA concurs with President Bush. AHIA believes there is a critical need to address medical liability in order to reduce costs in the health care system. "The best health care system in the world can be made more affordable through adopting these measures" adds Newman.
AHIA actively supports efforts to make health insurance more affordable and accessible. AHIA continues to believe that a reformed private health care delivery system is the best means to ensure choice, quality and affordability. "Reformation not replacement is what we need" concludes Newman.
AHIA's mission is to sustain and improve the business environment for NAIFA federation members who market a broad range of health-related products and services. AHIA advocates on issues that impact members involved in the sale of group and individual health-related products, including major medical, disability, long-term care, critical illness and Medicare supplement insurance.
